Horus Rising by Dan Abnett is the opening fusillade of The Horus Heresy series by publisher Black Library. I've previously read a 40k novel. Black Library has announced the upcoming publication of Macragge's Honor, the first title in a new series of graphic novels based on the Horus Heresy story line from the Warhammer 40K range of games. That novel was pretty disappointing. As such, The Horus Heresy series is a “premium” product; replete with lavish cover art and edition specific foil accents. I've been aware of the Warhammer 40000 sci-fi novels for a while now and if I'm being honest, I've always been a bit wary.
